We are a very blessed family. We had a great Christmas. Santa was excellent to Adam, we are all in relatively good health. We really feel very very thankful. We enjoyed our traditional Christmas Eve with our dear friends, the Sylvester/Allred/Schuller clan and the Marse family. We ate our buttons off and I personally don't want to look at another meatball for quite some time to come! We still have leftovers - anybody want 'em? We spent Christmas day with our friends, the Nash and Taylor families. We enjoyed leftovers together, as well as each other's company and had fun playing Apples to Apples.
We asked Adam why we celebrate Christmas and he said that it's for celebrating baby Jesus, presents, Santa, and lots of things. My favorite gift? It's a toss up between the bread machine and the beautiful copper salt and pepper grinders Michael got for me. Adam's favorite gift was Super Princess Peach for his DS and all the other gifts he got. Michael really loved his new electric staple gun (watch out world). He also liked the "Obey Gravity, it's the law" t-shirt that I got for him. (Thanks to Isaac for the great t-shirt websites.) Michael wanted the t-shirt that said
"Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense.
Refrigerator."
Unfortunately, the t-shirt site was sold out. We still think it's funny though.
Frankie's Christmas was a little tough for her. It was difficult for all of us to be apart during the holidays, even though we all know that she's where she needs to be. I forgot to post that we had a really fantastic visit with her for her birthday a couple of weeks ago. Much gentleness was given and healing took place, and I gained a whole new level of empathy for all that sweet girl has endured. We're grateful to say that we're seeing more cause and effect thinking running through her, as well as some genuine concern for others. We're very proud of our sweet Lelu. The work she's doing is hard, but so worth it and she really is pushing hard through some very tough stuff.
We're looking forward to the new year. It's been quite a tough 2007 and we're anxious to move forward. Not that we have a choice, but it's good to be anticipating, rather than dreading.

Dear Hootens, This is Miriam Bastian. I'm glad to hear you all had a good Christmas. I just wanted to thank you for the delicious soup you brought us in September. It was fantastic as always and I really need the recipe. You have no idea how much that simple act of kindness meant to me at that time. All the kindness we received seamed to help ease the pain. I am just now getting back into life. I've started looking at blogs again, catching up with old friends and doing activities that I enjoy. For a while I just did the essentials.
